Wishing or Hoping?
PRELUDE | Let Us Break Bread Together | Douglas E. Wagner
ADVENT PRAYER FOR PEACE
Prince of Peace, A world was prepared for your coming;
Prophets of old foretold you;
Spiritual seekers quietly awaited you.
In the fulfilment of time you came,
not with a fanfare of trumpets, not with legions of soldiers to protect you,
not with a treasury of gold to finance you, but in the earthiness of a stable,
in the vulnerable surroundings of a cradle,
with the crooning of a mother’s song for welcome.
So you began your journey from the cradle to the cross, costly vocation,
To redeem the world of sinners and to establish peace on earth.
Even so, Lord Jesus, quickly come.
~John Johansen-Berg, Shine on, Star of Bethlehem

CALL TO CONTINUING WORSHIP AND LIGHTING OF THE ADVENT WREATH | Darlene Giesbrecht, Jack and Alex Correa
The season of Advent is a time of waiting, waiting for the coming of Jesus.
While we wait, questions stalk our minds, anxiety rules our hearts:
We ask Who? What? Where? When? And Why?
Yet, our Maker says, Be still. Know that I am God.
We grow in grace as we wrestle with the questions and share our faith stories....
As we are waiting, may the Holy Spirit fill us with hope. Let us worship God!

PRAYER OF CONFESSION
God of Promise, God of Hope, help us not to lose your promises in the midst of all the noise that surrounds us. In our rush to be ready for Christmas, help us obey the speed limits that encourage us to slow down. When we go through school zones, help us to become students again sitting not in a classroom but at your feet. When we see a pedestrian crossing, help us to remember to watch for those who seek to cross into places of health and warmth. When we see signs warning about workers ahead, help us to remember not only those who work to keep us safe and to smooth out our paths, but also those who seek work and find none. God, help us to admit our hurriedness and hand it over to you so we may find again your little gifts along our way. Amen.

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

GREAT PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts
We lift them up to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.
THE LORD'S PRAYER
…Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
WORDS OF INSTITUTION
SHARING OF THE MEAL
(All who put their trust in Jesus Christ as Lord, regardless of age or denomination, are invited to partake in the Sacrament of Communion. Today we will serve Communion by intinction. Please come forward down the center aisle. Break off a piece of the bread and dip it into the cup and eat. Or you may take an individual cup from the tray and drink. Return to your seat by the side aisle. If you are unable to come forward, please indicate this to the pastor and the sacrament will be brought to you.)
PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION
Again we have gathered at your table, O Lord. Again we have been nourished by you. Again we have been bound anew to you and to each other. As we scatter from this sacred time, let us be nourished to feed those who hunger and to reach out to those are alone. Amen.
