Cantata Advent Third Sunday
Bulleltin for the December 16 Service
PRAYER FOR PEACE
Prince of Peace, A world was prepared for your coming;
Prophets of old foretold you;
Spiritual seekers quietly awaited you.
In the fulfilment of time you came,
not with a fanfare of trumpets, not with legions of soldiers to protect you,
not with a treasury of gold to finance you, but in the earthiness of a stable,
in the vulnerable surroundings of a cradle,
with the crooning of a mother’s song for welcome.
So you began your journey from the cradle to the cross, costly vocation,
To redeem the world of sinners and to establish peace on earth.
Even so, Lord Jesus, quickly come.

*CALL TO CONTINUING WORSHIP AND LIGHTING OF THE ADVENT WREATH Emily Olson, Olivia and Grace
It is the third week of Advent, and we are still waiting, waiting for the coming of Jesus.
While we wait, questions fill our minds, anxiety rules our hearts:
We ask Who? What? Where? When? And Why???
Yet, our Maker says, Be still. Know that I am God.
We grow in grace as we wrestle with the questions and share our faith stories. …As we are waiting, may the Holy Spirit fill us with joy. Let us worship God!
*HYMN 93 Lift Up Your Heads, Ye Mighty Gates Truro
*PRAYER OF CONFESSION
God of the Ages, we soon will be encouraged to rejoice with the voices of generations before us and our sisters and brothers around us, not only in this place but also around the world. For some of us that is an easy task, we have much to look forward to, the promise of time with those dear to us. For others, being joyful comes less easily. We have suffered or face loss, we’ve hit major bumps in our road. If we are joyful, help us to let it radiate from you through us into the dark corners of other lives. If we are joyless, help us to open the windows of our lives or at least peak through the curtains so the light of your presence may find its way to us. Amen.

*HYMN 123 | It Came Upon the Midnight Clear | Carol
*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
…Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
