I Saw The Light

PRAYER FOR PEACE                                             From Saint Francis of Assisi

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:
where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy.
O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console, to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.  For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen.

*CALL TO WORSHIP | Psalm 72:1-4
One: Give the king your justice, O God,
Many: and your righteousness to a king’s son.
One: May he judge your people with righteousness,
Many: and your poor with justice.
One: May the mountains yield prosperity for the people,
Many: and the hills, in righteousness.
One: May he defend the cause of the poor of the people,
All: give deliverance to the needy, and crush the oppressor.

*HYMN 133 | O Come, All Ye Faithful Adeste Fideles

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION
God of the past, present and future, we, like those astrologers of old look for signs of the future. In all honesty, we look at the stock market projection, the weather reports, the sales fliers and maybe the messages from our doctors. Somehow, we aren’t looking for you and your portents in many, if any, of these. Help us to look up, not to the heavens but to the higher, broader and greater things so we may see your guiding light. When we do look down and around us, help us to see you there too, standing with us. Amen.

*SILENT PRAYER OF CONFESSION

*DECLARATION OF FORGIVENESS
…Friends, believe the good news of the gospel:
In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. Thanks be to God!

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH | The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

INVITATION TO THE LORD’S TABLE
GREAT PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them up to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.

THE LORD'S PRAYER
…Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
