PRAYER FOR PEACE
Did I offer peace today? Did I bring a smile to someone’s face? Did I offer words of healing? Did I let go of my anger and resentment? Did I forgive? Did I love? These are the real questions. I must trust that the little bit of love that I sow now will bear many fruits, here in this world and the life to come.

*CALL TO CONTINUING WORSHIP
One: The heavens are telling the glory of God;
Many: and the firmament proclaims his handiwork.
One: Day to day pours forth speech,
Many: and night to night declares knowledge.
One: here is no speech, nor are there words;
Many: their voice is not heard;
One: yet their voice goes out through all the earth,
Many: and their words to the end of the world.

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Loving God who knows and feels all that we do and think, help us to learn how to pray faithfully. Easily we tell you what we or those near us need. If we’re honest with ourselves, we often want to be a consultant and tell you how to run this world of yours. Help us slow down and patiently take time to listen to the silence and to listen again to your voice within the silence. Amen.

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH
We trust in God, whom Jesus called Abba, Father. In sovereign love God created the world good and makes everyone equally in God’s image male and female of every race and people, to live as one in community. But we rebel against God; we hide from our creator. Ignoring God’s commandments, we violate the image of God in others and ourselves, accept lies as truth, exploit neighbor and nature, threaten death to the planet entrusted to our care. We deserve God’s condemnation. Yet God acts with justice and mercy to redeem creation. In everlasting love, the God of Abraham and Sarah chose a covenant people to bless all families of the earth. Hearing their cry, God delivered the children of Israel from the house of bondage. Loving us still, God makes us heirs with Christ of the covenant. Like a mother who will not forsake her nursing child, like a father who runs to welcome the prodigal home, God is faithful still.
PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And do not bring us to the time of trial, but rescue us from the evil one. Amen. (NRSV translation of Matthew 6:9-13)
